Clarity & Strength + Focus & Compassion: SmartFLOW® Weekend

  • Movement Vitality 101 Clarence Road Indooroopilly, QLD, 4068 Australia (map)

Instructor: Annie Carpenter

In Person Only

12 hours toward your advanced yoga certification.

Join me for a weekend of deep study and practice exploring essential principles of yoga, anatomy, and life’s transitions. Friday’s intensive will focuse on the balance of effort and release (Abhyasa and Vairagya) in cueing and sequencing. Saturday offers two sessions: a strong and intelligent twisting practice to support spinal health, followed by a psoas release workshop combining anatomy, restorative work, and strength for core integration. On Sunday, we’ll reflect on the yogic stages of life through discussion and a SmartCore-based practice that meets you where you are, physically, energetically, and spiritually. Sessions may be taken individually or as a full weekend immersion.

(For Teachers & Experienced Students Only)

The Yogi’s Task: Creating Inner Balance
FRIDAY 14 Nov 2-5pm :

Abhyasa and Vairagya in Cueing and Sequencing. This 3-hour Intensive is designed for teachers, teacher’s-in-training and experienced students. We’ll begin with a brief discussion of the central tenets Abhyasa and Vairagya (practice and detachment), including how to bring that balance into our sequencing and cuing. Next, we practice, pranayama and asana, highlighting the razor’s edge of this delicate and essential balance.  This emphasis is key to helping our students carry the lessons of Yoga into their lives.

Twist, No Shout!
SATURDAY 15 Nov 11-1:30pm

We’ll explore Twisting poses in all orientations – standing, seated and inverted – emphasizing health and longevity in the sacrum as we deepen our twists for spinal health. This is a strong and intelligent practice, building inner awareness and connections, and health and longevity to the spine. All Yoga practitioners who want to learn and grow are welcome.

Psoas Release Workshop
SATURDAY 15 Nov 2-5pm

The Psoas system is an ancient, minimally evolved muscle group that affects us in many ways: connecting the upper body to our legs, enabling walking, running and climbing, connecting the musculo-skeletal body to the sympathetic nervous system, and providing us with true core stability and strength. Sadly, for many of us there are imbalances and chronic contractions and pain that originate and linger in this system.

Expect a bit of anatomy, and a mix of release work, active-restoratives, strengthening and deep soothing and pacifying practice. This afternoon is designed for all levels, including those who may have psoas imbalances, and perhaps especially for teachers who will find this work fascinating and helpful.

Through the Seasons: The Yogic View on Moving Through the Stages of Life
SUNDAY 16 Nov 10am-1pm

After over 45 years of practice, Yoga has taught me so many things about staying healthy and strong, steadying my focus and goals, and about when and how to let go. The Yogic tradition has beautiful writings on the 4 Ashramas, or stages of life – some of which are 100% still pertinent and others that require an open mind and a modern perspective for me to embrace fully. We’ll have a short lecture and discussion on this topic; then we’ll practice.

Our lens for practice will be SmartCore. We’ll awaken the inner-most core physically and energetically. We’ll play with perspectives and shifting needs for each stage of life. And we’ll sense the part of our beings that is un-changing—highlighting, brightening the true Self.
